www.sciencemag.org SCIENCE VOL 328 21 MAY 2010 943 COVER Tumor-penetrating transport of cancer drugs is activated by the peptide iRGD (multicolored ring), which binds to integrin receptors (blue and yellow) in tumor blood vessels, and is subsequently cleaved. The cleaved peptide then binds to neuropilin-1 receptors (purple), activating a transport system that carries coadministered drugs, such as antibodies (green), deeper into tumor tissue. Experimental Study of Effective Parameters on Honing Process of Cast Iron Cylinder
Honing is a process for finishing surfaces to obtain smooth surface. This process is used for final polish of inner parts such as engines cylinders. Optimizing this process has always been a big challenge for mass production of cylinder blocks of internal combustion engines. Honing process has some variable parameters, thus to get their optimum rates the automobile cylinders were tested. In thi...

متن کاملIncreasing survival time decreases the cost-effectiveness of using "test & treat'' to eliminate HIV epidemics.
Treating HIV-infected individuals reduces their viral load, consequently increasing their survival time and decreasing their infectivity. It has been proposed that universal testing and treatment (i.e., universal "test & treat'') could lead to HIV elimination and would be extremely cost-effective. It is now being debated whether to use a universal "test & treat'' approach in the "real-world'' a...
متن کاملUsing a network-based approach and targeted maximum likelihood estimation to evaluate the effect of adding pre-exposure prophylaxis to an ongoing test-and-treat trial.
BACKGROUND Several cluster-randomized trials are underway to investigate the implementation and effectiveness of a universal test-and-treat strategy on the HIV epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa. We consider nesting studies of pre-exposure prophylaxis within these trials. Pre-exposure prophylaxis is a general strategy where high-risk HIV- persons take antiretrovirals daily to reduce their risk of i...
متن کاملA Mathematical Model of Comprehensive Test-and-Treat Services and HIV Incidence among Men Who Have Sex with Men in the United States
BACKGROUND Early diagnosis and treatment of HIV infection and suppression of viral load are potentially powerful interventions for reducing HIV incidence. A test-and-treat strategy may have long-term effects on the epidemic among urban men who have sex with men (MSM) in the United States and may achieve the 5-year goals of the 2010 National AIDS Strategy that include: 1) lowering to 25% the ann...
